As of the 1st January 2016, it was a requirement that all office space in the UK was to be measured to the RICS Property Measurement 1st Edition standard which encompasses the International Property Measurement Standard (IPMS). IMPS currently only covers office areas, but, will be expanded to include other building types.

The benefits of IPMS over the RICS Code of Measurement Practice is to make it easier to compare properties globally. Having a global measurement code increases transparency and meaning an in depth knowledge of every countries’ local measurement code is not required to compare properties around the world.
